A firm built on one idea: prepare every case for trial

“Each case is managed as a team, with the partners discussing every case so that no stone goes unturned in our endeavor to maximize recovery.”

Michael Bergman, partner
01

Every case prepared for trial

From the outset, cases are considered from the perspective of the client, the adversary, the judge and the jury.

02

Aggressive litigation, unyielding negotiation

That approach is why the firm has recovered over $350 million for its clients, and why so many new clients are referred by former ones.

03

A partner on every file

Clients are not turned over to an associate. A partner works with them directly throughout their case.

How it works

How your case works, step by step

Most people have never needed an injury lawyer before. Here is what actually happens after you call, so nothing about your own case is a surprise.

  1. 01

You call — a partner reviews it

The consultation is free, and the phones are answered around the clock. Tell us what happened. If you cannot travel, we come to you at home or in the hospital.

  2. 02

We investigate before the evidence goes

Police reports, photographs, surveillance video, witness statements, medical records, OSHA and Industrial Code violations on a job site. Video gets overwritten in days and defects get repaired — early work decides cases.

  3. 03

    We handle the insurance side

No-fault forms filed on time, adjusters dealt with, liens tracked. The insurance company talks to us, not to you.

  4. 04

We negotiate — and we try cases

Most cases resolve without a trial. Insurers know which firms will actually pick a jury, and it changes what they offer. When the offer is not the right offer, we try the case.

If there was more than 5 stars Seth Fields and his associates would get them all. Mr. FIelds went to trial with a jury in Suffolk Cty Riverhead Supreme Ct & won w/ a verdict in minutes for 100% Liability. The defense worked with Mr. FIelds in a settlement before the damages trial began. I would stop here searching any further & contact Seth Fields if you want a Smart, Attainable for your questions, concerns, Empathetic to your needs but a Bull Dog with your case, then you found your attorney.I can’t thank you enough for all your long hours, weekends, holidays that you put into 7 yrs of all my medical, motions, hearings & trial etc. WE WON! You did it and obtained a large settlement that I couldn’t be more happy after this long tough journey. I would refer everyone to you that has a case that needs fighting for. 🙏

Questions we are asked every day

Not answered here? A lawyer will answer it, free and at any hour.

Ask us directly
What does it cost to hire you?
Nothing up front. The consultation is free and we work on contingency, which means our fee comes out of the recovery. If there is no recovery, you owe no attorney fee. There are no hourly bills and no retainer.
How long do I have to bring a case in New York?
For most personal injury claims in New York it is three years from the date of the accident. Medical malpractice is two years and six months. Wrongful death is two years. Claims against a city, a county, the State, a school district or a transit authority require a Notice of Claim within 90 days — a much shorter deadline that catches people out. Because the deadline depends on who is responsible, call early rather than late.
What is my case worth?
It depends on the facts: how serious the injury is, what treatment you need, what work you lost, and how your life changes. No honest lawyer gives you a number at the first call. What we can give you, for free, is a straight assessment of whether you have a case and what it will take to prove it.
Do I have to go to court?
Most cases settle without a trial. But we prepare every case as if it will be tried, because that preparation is what moves an insurance company. If the offer is not fair, we are ready to pick a jury.
I was partly at fault. Do I still have a case?
Probably yes. New York uses pure comparative fault: your recovery is reduced by your share of the blame, but you are not barred from recovering. Insurers often overstate a claimant's share of fault early on. Do not accept their version before a lawyer looks at it.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Clifford Gabel is fluent in Spanish and the firm handles cases in Spanish from first call through trial. Our Spanish-language site is at selectattorney.com/es.
